What is the total amount of music files on your computer(s)?
2898 songs, 8 days and 8 hours of music... this includes maybe 10% of my CDs because I can't find them anymore. D'oh!
The last CD you bought is:
Ryan
Adams - Rock N Roll... I first heard about him in Time, where they
were talking about how he's a rock star that refuses to grow up and get
popular. He has all the ingredients of popularity (emo glasses, decent
lyrics, fun riffs) but doesn't actually want to promote an album
properly. He gets really mad when people cheer for him as "Bryan
Adams" at concerts. haha, that's what he gets.
Fine, despite the fact that he's a whiny little emo-looking rocker,
he has a lot of versatility. Also, he sings about Luminol. Like, the
stuff that lights up bodily fluids on CSI. He wins major points for
that.
What is the song you last listened to before this message?
Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine
They use mandolins. And they can harmonize. 'Nuff said.
Actually, my favorite song of theirs, Ghost, is one of the most
chilling yet brilliant songs out there. There's this one lyric that
goes,
"And there's not enough room in this world for my pain Signals cross and love gets lost and time passed makes it plain Of all my demon spirits I need you the most I'm in love with your ghost"
The song is rife with symbolism and gorgeous metaphors. Mmm, metaphors.
Write down five songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you:
I would have to say, the songs I listen to most are the songs the
ones that take me to that happy place in my head. Even if it's
implicitly; these are also the songs that make me cry the most (shut
up, I do cry, and music does a pretty stinkin good job at making me
cry). I feel like each of them has a bit of me in them, and resonate in
a way that other songs just haven't managed to do. I think there was a
period when Trista Pena was the only song I would listen to... over and
over, just because the way the Gipsy Kings conveyed grief was so
beautiful - that one song did what words themselves couldn't.
Counting Crows - Colorblind
Gipsy Kings - Trista Pena
Ben Harper - Forever
Marvin Gaye - What's Goin On
Dispatch - Elias
Name three artists/bands you adore:
Afro Celt Sound System - I never do work without them. In fact, they
populate the majority of my "work" playlist. They have fun beats and
great instrumentals that never fail to induce rocking out and more
specifically, not getting any work done. Yes! Mission accomplished!
Nina Simone - O the voice. Cool enough to be sampled by Talib Kweli
(Get By), revolutionary enough to write a song for a musical that
hasn't been written yet. Man, she's good. Definitely on the same level
as Etta and Ella, but her name doesn't start with E, unlike other
really cool people out there.
Nickel Creek - Bluegrass is so not trendy, and should never be
confused with Country. Bluegrass is way better because it has nothing
to prove. If you've ever heard the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack,
you can at least acknowledge the brilliance that is bluegrass, even if
isn't your cup of tea.
Who are you gonna pass this stick to (three persons and why)?
jMil - best mixtape maker. ever. jMil introduced me to at least a third of all the great music I listen to. if not more.
phil - because he gets arrested the most for being a crazy fan.
kroll - because she doesn't listen to ridiculous emo blah...
